"I find it exhilarating to travel around the country and speak to diverse audiences. It is often assumed that young urban men and women are unable to analyze and and are incapable of appreciating satire or conducting intelligent analyses of what they are seeing...I wanted you guys to know that I have been on a speaking tour speaking to Af-Am students at HBCU's and predominantly white universities and THEY GET IT.

I speak on topics of internet activism, hotghettomess.com and my experiences doing "We Got To Do Better" and the students totally get it. They express disbelief at the level of opposition to WGTDB. They understand the motivation behind the website and the show. They get the message and they admitted they learning a lot from the factoids on the show. It is such vindication to hear from their own mouths that our young people are not mindless lambs being led to the slaughter. They dont need everything dumbed down. They are bright, introspective, engaged and just yearning to be challenged by the media."

And The Crowd Goes Wild:
Jam Donaldson Speaks At Duke Ellington School For the Performing Arts

Duke Ellington Speech
One of Calvin Roberson's first initiatives in his new role as dean of arts is implementing an impressive new program, Ellington Presents. The series brings acclaimed arts professionals as guest lecturers on a monthly basis to share their talents, wisdom, insight, and instruction. The first guest to kick off the series was Jam Donaldson, a BET producer whose controversial show "We Got To Do Better" has earned her a place in recent news headlines. Others slated to appear this semester include acclaimed music producer Chucky Thompson (who has produced cds for artists like Mary J. Blige, Nas, and Biggie Smalls, among others), actor Terry Carter, recording artist Mya, rapper DMC of Run-D.M.C., and a panel of literature, theater, and dance specialists from the National Endowment for the Arts. "There are going to be acclaimed artists in and out of here all the time," says Mr. Roberson, "and programs like this will help boost Ellington to be a premier arts institution. It's tremendously exciting and gratifying to see our efforts coming to fruition."

Jam Donaldson At Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech Speaking Response
The Black Student Alliance sponsored Jam Donaldson's lecture at Virginia Tech and we enjoyed how she shared the story of the development of her controversial website www.hotghettomess.com that turned into the BET show We Got to Do Better. Jam's honesty about the positive and negative feedback she received from the website clearly proves that we need to continue conversations about race and culture in America. Personally, I felt enlightened by her speech. Jam gave us a variety of perspectives to help us to analyze our behaviors to better represent ourselves as African Americans to society. On behalf of the Virginia Tech community, Ms. Donaldson's presence was very much appreciated and necessary. Jam Donaldson will forever be recognized with the other speakers that we have brought in the past which include Angela Davis, Dick Gregory, and Talib Kweli among many others.

"It was refreshing to have Jam Donaldson at St. Edward's University. What was presented needed to be said and shown, letting people know there is a problem in the community. I wish that more people would realize the benefits of Jam's methods of exposing the problem, so maybe we can come up with a solution." --
